Sustainability

Choose a responsible partner in Pierce Chicken®.

Food production requires the use of water, land, and air resources. Pierce Chicken® understands that it’s our responsibility to be a good steward of these resources, and we follow the Pilgrim’s Pride® Sustainable Progress system to help accomplish this goal. This system serves as the environmental framework for our day-to-day operations and long-range planning.

Our mission is: “To be an industry leader in sustaining air, water, and land resources by minimizing the resources needed and the wastes generated at our facilities and farms, at our customers’ locations, and throughout our supply chain in the production of quality and affordable poultry products and by-products.”

Our system uses the concept of continuous improvement to establish goals, assign responsibilities and resources, define specific actions, establish, measure and access metrics, report performance, and continuously improve results.

Animal Welfare Policy Statement

Pierce Chicken will strictly maintain a program of animal welfare that is designed to eliminate unnecessary harm and suffering for animals in the day-to-day operation of our production processes.

Implementation

Pierce Chicken has implemented live production practices that avoid unnecessary suffering, prevent destructive behavior, prevent disease, and provide proper nutrition for poultry while promoting good animal health.

Pierce Chicken has developed specific programs in cooperation with our customers, which promote generally accepted standards for the welfare and humane treatment of the animals in our charge. These programs include both internal and external audit procedures.

Pierce Chicken also supports and has implemented the guidelines for animal welfare issued by the National Chicken Council and National Turkey Federation with the intent to promote the humane treatment and well-being of poultry through the production process.

Pierce Chicken has a documented training program for all Partners involved in handling live animals. All Partners involved in handling live birds receive training in the areas that are appropriate for them in order that they can perform their jobs in accordance with best practices.

Employees or growers who violate the Pierce Chicken animal welfare policy and associated procedures will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or termination of their grower contract.
